Badman Riddim - Music Video (Barrington)

Music Video Evaluation (Barrington)

Evaluation

How did that Video work?

The video worked through the hard work and consistency of the producers, editors and actors as well as the audience they all worked as a team for.
We all learnt many lessons from the experience, for example; We learnt how to take leadership roles, make quick decisions and/or improvising where necessary, the procedures, advantages and disadvantages of filming music videos; only naming a few.

 What would make it better?
It would have been better if we had more money to fund our production. This means we may have had more lighting equipment, better cameras/actors/props, and overall more variety in the video without as many limitations.

Also if there were more people working on the project, we may have got work done faster, with less effort and to a higher standard.

What did the people who Helped, Watched or Shot the video think?

They thought that there were a few minor draw-backs throughout the project’s duration. However only small changes were suggested. These changes included adding Aspect ratio, different background footage and a more detailed story, which after explanation were withdrawn and understood.

What will I do differently next time?
Next time, we’ll hope to begin working MUCH faster and be hands-on with the ideas and processes we’ll need to take on. We also hope to add more locations and equipment with better funding or different providers to contribute towards our project. We will also choose our editing software beforehand to ensure quick, reliable movement with no delay through the course of our work.

clone effect

This is the clone effect.
The main things you need to know while filming in order to make this work is:
Keeping the camera really still throughout it, lighting, and making sure the eye line is matched up.

  1. Drag your footage onto the timeline.
  2. Turn down the opacity of the top line
  3. Adjust what your scene is meant to be so it looks how you want it to be.
  4. once you have figured out how the scene goes turn the opacity back up.
  5. Go to the motion tab-crop-and crop according to how the scene is.

Green screen

Green screen is another editing technique. The point of this is to make the character look like they are somewhere when in reality they are just standing in front of a colored screen. Weather Reporters are known to use this.

  1. Film your character/characters in front of a green screen which can also be blue.
  2. In final cut pro move your footage onto the timeline.
  3. Select footage and go into effects-video filters-key-chroma keyer
  4. From your browser drag your photo onto the timeline preferably underneath your footage.
  5. Select footage and go on chroma keyer
  6. Click on eye droper tool this will key out a colour
  7. Select the green from the screen, most of the colour should then key out.
  8. Holding down shift key keep pressing the tool to help take out more green.
  9. Drag out the colour bar out till all the green has disappeared
  10. Drag out softener bar to take the pixelation away.

D.w.Griffith

Edwin Stanton Porter was the first to discover that cutting separate scenes together could create a story, he realised that by doing this will help to create an emotional and psychological impact on the audience.

films
the great train robbery
terrible Teddy, the Grizzly King
Jack and the Beanstalk (1902)

life of an american fireman, this is a silent film that was made in 1903. I n this film edwin only used 9 shots some of them being interior of the Engine House,Leaving the Engine House and a shot of the fire. the film is known to be the earliest film that uses cross-cutting. After making this film on his following film he tried out techniques such as different types of lights, close ups and changing shots within a scene.

Edwin is still known as

Introduction to editing

The Gloaming
What is editing?
Selecting from different shots and joining them together to tell a story.

What is Elliptical editing?
This type of editing is usually used to allow the audience to fill in the gap, move the story on more quickly and takes up less time on screen.

Why are long shots used?
Long shots are usually used to set the scene, and show the audience the location and what’s surrounding the character/characters.

What is ‘non-diagetic sound’?
Music is playing but character can’t hear as it is not playing at the location but would have been added when editing. Therefore the digectic sound is the natural sound heard in the specific location.

How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring? (What shots are used and why?)
The shot follows the previous shot so the audience fills in the gap. For example the first was a CU of her looking down which cut to a close up of her hands picking up a ring. Usually this is a quicker way to make the same point.

Hustle
Overhead establishing shot – what does this achieve?
The Director sets out the space in which the scene will take place and the characters position in the room.

What is Shot-Reverse-Shot?
Cutting back and forth usually during a conversation between two characters assuming they are looking and speaking to each other.

What is Eye-line matching?
When two characters eyes match so the audience is aware that they are looking at each other.

Why do we cut to the other members of the group?
So you can see their faces and see the reactions to the plan and to the different characters.

What is a wipe?
To move the action to a different location.

What is the effect of using quick cuts?
Creates a fast rhythm, which moves the story along and keeps the audience on their toes.

I have posted my video profile on to my blog. From my feedback I have received some positives and some negative comments that I mainly agree with.
Looking back at my video I am very proud of the shots I have used especially the close up of my eyes. I am also happy with the music I added as it goes with my profile very well. To make my video profile more professional I could of used a better camera so the quality would improve. I would of chosen a different and a range of locations to improve the look of my video by doing this my video would look more interesting and also more professional. A boom mic would have made the sound much better as the mic on the camera wasn’t great so you can hear fuzzy noises at times.  A monopod and a tripod would have been very useful when filming my profile as the angles and shots would of looked much more professional therefore would make my profile more effective as the audience will be more interested in what I am saying etc.

If there was an opportunity to do my profile again I would improve on quite a lot like the sound quality, the amount of talking I done and also the sequences of shots I would of used the five shot rule. I would of also shown more pictures/video to relate to what I am talking about at a certain time, this would of made my profile more effective as the audience would be able to convey what I am talking about.

Improvement could be made on the sound and you could have added a bit more about yourself.” This is one of the criticisms I received for my video I agree with this because at times I went quite while I was talking I also did not say as much as I could of about myself. The transitions I used was effective this Is one of the positive comments I received.

Video Analysis

Video AnalysisTitle of video- Never give upURL: http://youtu.be/LhsJznFHhBsWhat happens in the video?- Never give up is a short film based on vanity and love. The film shows a couple in a cafe/coffee shop. Their is a man outside that is trying to catch the females attention, he does this by doing funny things such as stretching on the street. Eventually the female walks out the shop leaving her current partner and going to the man outside. Her  decision was made based on the fact that the male in the relationship has a very vain personality and throughout their conversation he only talks about himself.
Who is the target audience?- In my opinion i think the target audience is black females. Age ranging from 16-35. This is because the main characters in this short film our of that ethnicity and also females stereotypically enjoy watching the romantic comedy genre.
What digital platform did video appear on? I found this video on you tube, therefore the digital platform is a computer as you need this to get onto the Internet.
What was the purpose of the video? The purpose of Never give up is to entertain a certain audience.
Technical Aspects- The image quality of this video is very good and the shots that are used are very simple but work well in the film.  The sound in Never give up is genuinely good throughout but can go up and down as at certain times you can hear the noises from the passing cars and buses outside. In my opinion the editing is decent but the editor could have done more to make the film more effective.
Title of video- Suli Breaks-R.I.PURL http://youtu.be/onQzMUMkKqMDescribe what happens in the video:Suli Breaks is a young man who writes spoken word. In order to get his poems heard he makes videos on you tube to help him build a fan base. His poems are very educating and he mostly talks about realistic things that are happening in his or other peoples lives. This particular poem is called R.I.P witch most people know means rest in peace, Suli breaks uses this acronym to produce many words and sentences. The point of this poem is try and tell people to drop their arms and to help embrace peace. The video is similar to a short film as it tells a story while he is reciteing his poem.Who is the target audience? The target audience for this Pacific video is young males of the black ethnicity. This is because not only is the poet Suli Breaks black but this poem appeals to young men that may be effected by gun and knife crime and black on black crime. The audience that will watch and enjoy this video are most likely to enjoy listening or writing their own poetry.
Which digital platfortm does the video appear on? I found this video on you tube, therefore the digital platform is a computer as you need this to get onto the Internet.
What is the purpose of this video?- This video is to inform on crime and to help to encourage young people to embrace peace.
Tecnical aspects- The technical aspects of this video on a whole is excellent. The shots they have used and the work of the editor is extremely good. The shots give off a powerful aspect. Some parts of the video is at a fast pace this relates to what he is talking about because life can end very quickly.
Title of Video- Yeo Valley Advert URL; http://youtu.be/eOHAUvbuV4o  Describe what happens in the video: This is a advert to promote yeo valley dairy products , it has a group of middle aged people rapping about the rural way of life, dressed in borbour and standing on a farm in somerset. This video has over 2 million views on youtube.  The song is very catchy so the advert does the correct job of marketing/promoting as people will remember it and therefore want to by the product. The advert was aired during X Factor and shortly after managed to secure a "most viewed" status on Facebook and YouTube and trended on Twitter. The song was then released on iTunes and became the number one music download in the UK. Not only does the advert promote Yeo Valleys dairy products but also helps to support british family farms.Who is the target audience? The target audience for this particular advert may be people between the ages of 10 and 30 this is because its promoting yoghart and people of those ages are most likely to enjoy eating it. Also the song will attract young people as its the type of music they listen to and enjoy. The people in this advert are middle aged this will help to attract the eyes of middle aged people. As the genre of music appeals to young people rather then the older generation this is another way to attract a wider audience as the people in this advert are middle aged therefore people of this age will listen to it and have a sense of youth. Which digital platform does the video appear on? I found this video on you tube, therefore the digital platform is a computer as you need this to get onto the Internet. This advert has been shown on the television a few times therefore there is two digital platforms you can find this advert on.What is the purpose of the video?  The purpose is to promote and inform people about the milk and yogurt that the cows on this farm can produce. It also helps to promote british farms.Technical aspects? The tecnical aspects of this video is very good, this includes the video quality, sound and the editing. The shots used in this advert reflect exactly what the purpose of the advert is for example throughout it they show the audience the animals on the farm which is one of the main points they are trying to get across.
Title of Video- Cadburys Gorilla Advert

URL: http://youtu.be/TnzFRV1LwIoDescribe what happens in the video: This advert is a very simple concept but very effective as it increased the number of buyers for cadburys chocolate by a huge amount. In this advert you see a gorilla sitting at a drum set although he dosen't actually play the instrument until about half way through the audience will still watch in anticipation for whats to come, as the gorilla seems as though he is preparing for the big moment. This would instantly attract a lot of peoples eyes as its very unusual for a animal to do something that only humans are known to do.The song that is playing in this advert is called In the Air tonight by Phill Collins.Who is the target audience? In my opinion i think the advert apeals to people from ages 6 to 65 this is because any age will eat and enjoy chocolate but in terms of the advert young children may be very fascinated by the fact a gorilla is playing the drums as it is something that is not normal. Middle aged people and older will be attracted to the advert as they are more likely to recognise the song. Animal lovers will also be attracted to this advert. Which digital platform does the video appear on? I found this video on you tube, therefore the digital platform is a computer as you need this to get onto the Internet. This advert has been shown on the television a few times therefore there is two digital platforms you can find this advert on.What is the purpose of the video? The purpose of this advert is to get more of the piblic to eat cadburys chocolate. The idea was to show that they are different from other chocolate brands.
Technical aspects? The tecnical aspects of this video is very good, this includes the video quality, sound and the editing. The shots used in this advert are good as they show exactly what the gorilla is doing.
